Thomas Edward Burnell, a loving father, nephew, brother, and friend passed away on February 16th, 2023, at the age of 50.
Tom, as he was known to friends and family was born on May 25th, 1972, in Bay City, Michigan. He was a true lover of life, and his enthusiasm for everything he did was contagious. Tom had many passions in life, including spending time with his friends and family, fishing, taking trips to the casino, playing fantasy football, and watching Red Wings hockey. He was also an avid collector of comic books and other unique items, which he proudly displayed in his home.
Tom was known for his great sense of humor, which often left his loved ones in stitches. He had a unique way of looking at the world and was never afraid to speak his mind. In fact, he was the one who created the saying "it is what it is," which has become a popular catchphrase in his family.
Tom is survived by his daughter, Skyler Apple; aunt, Pamela (Bob) Crump; sister, Jennifer (Cory) Dabrowski; brothers, Kevin and Phillip Burnell; nieces and nephews, Taylor, Carson, and Maddison Dabrowski, Alison, Brianna, and Yannis Burnell. He also leaves behind five of the best friends a guy could have. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Debra Burnell; grandparents, Floyd and Genevieve Bellnap and John and Eleanor Burnell; aunt, Sharon Bellnap; nephew, Kaplan Burnell.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks for the wonderful care he received from the nurses and doctors at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY during his time there.
In his last selfless act on earth, Tom was an organ donor.
Tom will be deeply missed by his loved ones and all who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to have known him. May he rest in peace.
A memorial service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2023 at the Apostolic Life Church of Bay City at 3360 E Midland Road. Officiating will be Associate Pastor Johnny Powers. Friends and family may visit at the church on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the wishes of the family.
