Phillip Wayne Chambers

October 20, 1951 — September 10, 2024

Phillip Wayne Chambers passed away on September 10, 2024, surrounded by family at Hospice House in Bloomington, Indiana at the age of 72. He was born on October 20, 1951; the first of four sons born to Harold Lee and Elllen Elizabeth (Whaley) Chambers in Bloomington. He married the love of his life, Carol June Smythe, on August 28, 1970 in Ellettsville. For 54 years, he and Carol were rarely seen without each other and have been an example to their children, grandchildren, and all who knew them of true love, devotion, and commitment. Phillip worked a number of jobs as he and Carol built and supported their family, including at IU, GE, Rumpke, and High Speed Tire. He touched many with his warm humor and mischievous smile. As a mechanic, he was always available to provide advice and lend a helping hand when asked. He enjoyed the casinos, playing cards, fishing, and mushroom hunting, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Phillip is survived by his wife Carol and three sons, Thomas Lee (Tamy) Chambers, Kevin Wayne (Kelly Jo) Chambers, and Nathan Phillip (Kortney) Chambers, as well as his grandchildren, Sawyer (Madi) Chambers, Wylie Chambers, Everett (Erin) Sherwood, Nicholas Chambers, Chloe Chambers, Preston Chambers, Ashton Chambers, McKenzi Chambers, Mason Chambers, and Maverick Chambers. He is additionally survived by his brother Dan Chambers, sisters-in-law Debra (Richard) Erwin and Linda (Donald) Cissell, and brother-in-law Mark (Tanya) Smythe. He was proceeded in death by his parents, brothers Joseph and William Chambers, sister-in-law Sherry Chambers, and grandson, Cody Lee Chambers. The family will remember Phillip with a celebration of life on September 29, 2024, at the Monroe County Fair Grounds (4H building) 5700 Airport Road from 2 pm to 6 pm. Friends and family are encouraged to come, visit, and share stories and memories.
