It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mark Alan Combs, a beloved husband, father, and friend, who left this world on February 14, 2025. Born to the late Luther and Beverly Combs, Mark was a shining light in the lives of those who knew him. He was preceded in death by his cherished parents and his grandson, Jonathan McFall, who will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife, Kasey Combs, with whom he shared a beautiful life since their marriage on October 10, 1992, at 10 a.m. in Richmond, Indiana. His love for Kasey was evident in everything he did, and together they created a home filled with laughter and warmth.
Mark's love extended beyond his immediate family. He is survived by his loving sister, Kittie (Wayne) Bennett, and his treasured niece, Tiffany (Kyle) Mason. He was a proud father to his daughters, Kelli Lacy and Allison Wise (Ryan Pitman), and his son, Randy Hammond. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandchildren: Zachary Conley (Bianca Burress), Elizabeth (Tyler) Bartlett, Cory (Tarina) McFall, Shaun (Christina) Hammond, Josh (Amanda) Hammond, and Brad (Emily) Hammond, along with several great-grandchildren and cousins who will carry his memory in their hearts. Additionally, Mark treasured the many faraway friends he made during his years in East Tennessee, always cheering them on with a resounding, "Go Vols!"
Mark's journey in life was one marked by dedication and service. He proudly served in the Air Force and later became a lifetime member of the VFW, where he participated in the color guard, honoring those who served before him. His commitment to his country and his community was unwavering, and he exemplified what it meant to be a true patriot.
In his pursuit of knowledge, Mark attended Ivy Tech, where he studied plumbing and electricity, skills that he would carry with him throughout his life. His career and hobbies reflected his unique personality; he loved to fish, enjoy a good laugh, and watch television, often indulging in his favorite cartoons and 70's arena rock music. An avid online poker player, Mark also had a passion for collecting Anime figurines and knives, and he found joy in everything whimsical, from dragons and wizards to Mickey Mouse and gemstones.
Mark was a simple man with an extraordinary spirit. He had a wonderful soul, and his love for his family was immeasurable. He had a knack for humor, often sharing a good joke with a side-eye glance and a playful groan that would leave everyone chuckling. His wardrobe of funny t-shirts and comfortable jeans was a testament to his laid-back nature, endearing him to all who knew him.
In this time of sorrow, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Cameron at IU Health for being an amazing and caring nurse, providing Mark with compassion and dignity in his final days.
A private funeral service will be held in honor of Mark's life, where family and close friends will gather to celebrate the beautiful memories they shared with him. Mark Alan Combs will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His spirit will continue to live on through the love he fostered in his family and the countless lives he touched during his time on this earth. Rest in peace, Mark; your legacy of love and laughter will never fade.
