James Curtis Easter

James Curtis Easter, 58, died unexpectedly on March 3, 2021 at his residence through SouthernCare VA Hospice Services. He was born in Huntsville, AL on December 9, 1962. He was the youngest son of three children born to Neil Avron Easter from Empire, Alabama and Laura Etta (Childers) Easter from Aberdeen, Mississippi.
James "Jim/Jimmy" Easter was very popular and had many friends who consider him a lifelong friend. He was a charismatic gem of a person, amazing father, loving brother, genuine friend, lover of arts, and excellent athlete. He graduated from Bloomfield High School, Class of 1981, where he was known for his success in many sports. Following graduation, he went to Indiana State University from 1981 to 1983 for Electronics Technology where he played basketball following in the footsteps of his mother, Laura.
Jimmy was a US Navy (USN) Veteran. Following the advice of his father, as well as joining his brother. Jim served in the United States Navy from Indianapolis, IN to Norfolk, VA as a Radioman, from August 9, 1983 to May 8, 1987. He graduated from "A" School, Class of 1984. He served as a Facilities Control Supervisor on the USS Coral Sea CV-43, and was responsible for the accurate and timely trouble shooting for over 50 telecommunications circuits such as UHF, HF, and Satellite Voice Systems. He was also a Navy Teletype Repair Facilities Lead Petty Officer where he attended Navy Teletype Repair, Xerox 1075 Copier Repair, and SqD Power Distribution and Control Schools. He received an Honorable Discharge from the Navy with the following:
Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon (2nd Award), Navy Expeditionary Medal (1st Award), Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (1st Award), and Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (1st Award).
Jimmy has since worked for companies as an electronics sales specialist and contractor at Crane Naval Base, KPT, Budget, Milcom, Inc., All-Phase Electrical, and Lowe's Home Improvement. He worked for Raydar and Associates, Inc. in Odon, IN on over 50 government and contract personal budgeting/procurements with the LPD-17 Naval Ship Yard, FISC Norfolk Federal Supply System (FedStock), and NAVICP screened Requesting Technical Authority (RTA) for MILSTRIP procurements. He was also a Senior Obsolescence Consultant for Computer Solutions, LLC in Huntsville, AL as a lead Inventory Obsolescence Analyst on the US Army's RQ-7 Shadow 200 Un-Manned Aerial Reconnaissance System (UAS) and Universal Ground Control Station (UGCS). He worked in North Charleston, SC and continued with Kellogg Snacks, in Seelyville, IN. He was with Boston Scientific until January 9, 2018 when he retired on full Veterans Disability due to his neuropathy from chemotherapy treatments.
Jimmy was diagnosed with fourth stage colon cancer, urethra cancer, kidney failure, and was undergoing chemotherapy/radiation treatments. He was doing very well with treatment and thanks to prayers was recovering. He was very grateful and extended many thanks to his family, Chaplain Kelly, and caseworkers Nathan, John, Lori, Kristin, and Destiny who cared for him and watched over him. His family would like to extend a special thank you to "Shifflett", the Carr family, Destiny, Melissa, Kathryn, Jacob, Nick, Jacqlyn, Sam, and LJ.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Neil Avron and Laura Etta (Childers) Easter and two nephews Josiah and Christian Quearry of Bloomfield, IN.
Surviving him are his children, Lauren "Danielle" Easter Best, Army Specialist Avron C. Easter, Braydon Wesner, and his grandson, Leo Axel Easter. Surviving him in addition to his children, is his brother Ricky Easter (Karen), his sister, Michelle Quearry (Dan), his nephews Derrick (Michelle) Easter and Justin Easter. He had many "adopted" kids, nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him very much.
Jimmy was an avid Churchill Downs fan and enjoyed going to the Kentucky Derby with his children and crew, including best friend, Jim Littlejohn. He was an incredible fisherman and cook. He loved fishing with his family, especially his brother, Ricky. He enjoyed playing video games with his roommates, Nick and Jacelyn. "Mac Daddy" enjoyed reading and keeping as many Tom Clancy books as his daughter, Danie, could find him. He was happiest when sharing stories about how proud he was of his children, especially Avron and his tours in the Army. He loved bowling, playing squirt guns, and praying to Jesus with his grandson, Leo.
Jim was an avid donor to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, Build Indiana Fund, and Indiana University Foundation. He was a member of the Cancer Support Community of Central Indiana for Veterans Facing Cancer Together and Whole Health for Life. He also was an Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor. His daughter, Danie, participated in 5k races honoring Jim during Night Nation Runs for Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) and Relay for Life charities to accelerate cancer research.
A memorial service of remembrance is being arranged by his children and will be determined at a future date. Jim will be buried in the Easter family plot at New Canaan Cemetery in Empire, AL by his family. His memorial is being arranged on Facebook. It is the family's intention to be mindful of everyone's safety in light of COVID 19 restrictions.
