Jack Myers, formerly of Owensboro, completed his life journey Friday September 1st, among his family in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born November 5, 1939 in McLean County to Joe and Eva Ellison Myers. He grew up in Muhlenberg County and graduated from Central City High School Class of 1958.
Jack was a visionary, and "Jack of All Trades". Carpenter, chef, entrepreneur, fixer of all that is broken. His passion was creating. Artistic competition in hair design gave him the drive and recognition of becoming unrivaled in his craft. While still a young man, Jack and former wife Judith established Jack Myers Enterprises, Inc. Businesses included Jack Myers Hairstyles, The Wig Shoppe, The Exercise Lounge, Owensboro School of Hair Design, and was the developer/distributor of Action Jackson Spice for Life and BBQ Sauce Franchise. Other career endeavors included platform artist and educator for several professional salon product lines, as well as freelance motivational speaking. An avid appetite for all politics kept Jack active in both state and national organizations as he held many positions over the years including; President of Kentucky Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association, National Hair Fashion Committee, National Cosmetology Association Platinum Member, National Hairdressers & Cosmetologists Association Board of Directors, Bluegrass Hair Fashion Committee, and Director of the National Cosmetologists Association.
Charity involvement included the Ky. Chapter of The American Breast Cancer Association, St. Jude's Children's Research, and Green River Comprehensive Care Center where he humbly donated his time and talent. Jack was commissioned in 1971 by Governor Louie B. Nunn, an Honorable Kentucky Colonel.
Mr. Myers most recently grieved the passing of his wife Wanda (Oldham) August 2020, son Mark in May 2022, and grandson Kyle (Trogdon) September 2019. He was also preceded in death by his mother Eva and stepfather Russell Lacefield, father Joe and stepmother Liz Myers, sisters Denice Riley and Sue Bellamy, and stepbrother Pat Lacefield (Mary Beth).
Among countless friends met throughout his life, Jack leaves behind his three surviving children; Christa Harrison (Chris Evans) of Louisville, Kurt Myers of Owensboro, and Jeanine Eaton (David) of Nicholasville, Ky. Stepchildren, Jeff Oldham (Liz), Jahn Owens (David), and John Oldham (Elizabeth). Step siblings, Lana Lacefield Barney, Delbert Lacefield, and Gary Lacefield (Judy). "Pappaw Jack" was the proud grandfather of fourteen and the great grandfather of five.
Services will be held at 3:00 (CST) November 4, 2023 at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery Chapel 1300 Old Hartford Rd. Owensboro, Ky. 42303. A Celebration of Life will follow for family and friends to come, join, and share in Jack's memory. Expressions of sympathy may be made to American Alzheimer's Association or www.Alz.org.
