Hardin "Jim" Cherry Kellogg, age 68, born October 21, 1954 passed away in his home in West Point, KY over the Thanksgiving holiday. Son of Elizabeth S. Cherry (daughter of Henry Hardin Cherry, founder of WKU), and Martin Williams Kellogg, Jim was born in Connecticut. Kentucky was his home. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jim enlisted into the U.S. Army Regular in 1975 and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class in the SFGA. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1978. He continued his work for the U.S. Army Reserve for awhile. Jim's service and training undoubtedly propelled him into the active and adventurous lifestyle he chose to lead. Jim was a skilled carpenter, avid kayaker, A-League Volleyball player, adventure dad, helper to all who needed it. His regard for the people around him were of the utmost sincere. He loved the river, Alfa Romeos, anything that went fast, and beef and bean sprouts. His booming laugh will never be forgotten. He volunteered much of his time in his later years to the upkeep of Fort Duffield in West Point, KY and spent countless hours caring for others, especially the elderly. If anyone was in need, Jim was the first to step up. He is survived by his daughter, Hannah Elizabeth Kellogg, and former wives Anna Rutledge Barker and Cari Martin. Memorial donations can be made towards Fort Duffield Park or the Shriners of Louisville, of which he was a lifelong supporter. A memorial service honoring the life of Jim Kellogg will be held in the late Spring or Summer of 2023 date TBD in Louisville, KY. You may contact Hannah Elizabeth Kellogg for more information.
