David Lee Vangilder

David Lee VanGilder, 80 of Marshall, IL passed away Wednesday September 29, 2021. He retired from the Mattoon Area Adult Education Center in 2003. He drove for various trucking companies after his retirement. David was born February 27, 1941 in Terre Haute, IN to Willard and Edna (Corby) VanGilder. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Chris VanGilder; sisters, Linda Sullivan, Carolyn Jones, Betty Rose Fuqua, Jane Garloch and a brother, Richard VanGilder. David is survived by three children, Victor VanGilder (Stacy Taylor), Vince VanGilder (Brandee), and Lisa VanGilder (Scotty Jackson); sisters, Shirley Hopkins and Jackie Pastorius; grandchildren, Tyler Morgan, Brayden VanGilder, Kory Rowley, Heather Stephens, Grant VanGilder, Faith VanGilder, Brooke VanGilder and Gunnar VanGilder; great-grandchildren, Bryson Stephens, Hailey Stephens and Raylynn Morgan; and his honorary grandchildren, Sahara Waite, Chelsea Waite and Silas Waite. David was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Marshall American Legion Post #90. He chose to be cremated and have no formal service, but his family and friends are invited to celebrate his life and maybe even have a drink in his memory at the Marshall Legion on Sunday October 10 at 1:00 (CST).
