Christine Julia Mooney Ballas, of Shelbyville, KY, age 59, passed away peacefully with siblings at her bedside on May 19, 2023 at Select Specialty Hospital, Danville, KY. Christine (Chris) was born to Walter Mooney and Mamie Carpenter on March 24, 1964 in San Jose, CA.
Chris grew up in the Santa Clara County area with her siblings along with her mother Mamie and (step) father George Ballas. Chris enjoyed sports growing up and played softball for 10 years. In high school, Chris participated in arm wrestling, basketball, and lettered in tennis and softball. While still in high school, Chris played fastpitch softball for the San Jose semipro team The Rainbows.

In the 1990s, Chris moved to Kentucky to be closer with two of her siblings that had moved to Kentucky earlier.
Chris is survived by her sister Virginia (Ginny) Freitas of Dunnville, KY, F. Edward Nivison of Lawrenceburg, KY, and Shelline Klingenfuss of Manteca, CA.
Chris was preceded in death by grandparents Floyd and Virginia (Richardson) Carpenter and Maurille and Julia (Moore) Mooney. Chris was also preceded in death by her parents Walter J. Mooney of Multnomah, OR and Mamie (Carpenter) Markiewicz of Shelbyville, KY, and sister Janet Tilbury of Manteca, CA.
