Our beloved mother, sister, auntie, and grandmother Chawneta Jane (Jones) Adams, age 59, passed after a house fire on March 8th, 2024 at the University of Louisville Medical Center.
Chawneta was born September 12th, 1964 in Richmond, Indiana to Georgia Irene Harris (Burke) and Junior May.
Chawneta lived in Richmond, Indiana for most of her childhood before later moving to Dayton, Ohio, Nashville, Tennessee and her final home, Georgetown, Kentucky.
Chawneta was a Christian and attended many Pentecostal churches throughout her life. She had an affinity for one particular Pentecostal church in New Lebanon, Ohio and would often speak about that church and how she missed attending. She had a deep belief in God and the Holy Spirit.
She was employed by Toyota for many years and later worked for Amazon in their warehouse. She enjoyed her job at Amazon but always said that her favorite was at the Toyota plant because, as she put it, "I get to sit down and build cars"!
Chawneta was a small woman at only 4'11", but what she lacked in stature she made up with a beautiful heart. Always willing and ready to go to bat for those she cared for, or to be there to lean on when needed. She could be a complicated person at times, but her love would always shine through. She loved to laugh, and tell stories about the past. Those of us that had the honor to know her will always remember her stories, her laugh, and her comforting presence.
Chawneta is survived by her three brothers, John Harris of Nashville, Tennessee, Michael Harris of Nashville, Tennessee and her "baby brother", Kevin Harris, also of Nashville, Tennessee. She always said John was the most like her, Michael was the thinker of the family and Kevin was the handsome one with the same green eyes as her. She is survived by her three children, Sidney Jones (Pamela) of Conway, New Hampshire, Melissa Jones (Anthony) of Irvine, Kentucky and Brian Jones (Heather) of Lexington, Kentucky. Chawneta has 12 grandchildren ; Dylan, Kyle, Isaiah, Antoin (Junebug), Tyler, Calaab, Brooklyn, Allie, Alena, Alivia, Chase, and Aubrey. Also many nieces and nephews of which she was so proud and enjoyed sharing stories of their successes in life. Her sister-in-laws also held a very special place in her heart, Shirley Sizemore-Debord of Salina, Kansas, Linda Tankersley of Livingston, Kentucky and Peggy Jones of Richmond, Indiana.
Chawneta was preceded in death by her husband and lifelong companion, David Jones, her mother, Georgia Irene Harris, father, Junior May, son, David Lee Jones and daughter, April LeAnn Jones.
Services are being handled by Halo Funeral Home of Columbus, Indiana. There will be a Celebration of Life held in Richmond, Indiana. Family and friends will be notified of the time and date.
