Burton Hall

July 16, 1929 — December 20, 2024

Burton Lee Hall, 95, made his final journey to join his beloved parents and brother John in Heaven on Friday, December 20th, 2024. Mr. Hall was born on July 16th, 1929, in Eureka, Illinois, to Frank Richards Hall and Maeta Vissering Hall. Burton grew up in West Lafayette, Indiana, where his father was a professor at Purdue University. Mr. Hall was a proud Red Devil and graduated from West Lafayette High School with the class of 1947. He developed relationships there that lasted a lifetime and always enjoyed attending class reunions. After high school, Burton attended Purdue for a year. He joined the military, attending OCS at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He spent time serving in the artillery in Germany and finished his military service as a Second Lieutenant. Mr. Hall continued his education in Chicago to attend the American Academy of Art. While there, he studied animation and cartooning and while there he met his future wife. Burton married Deborah Fonna Lee Hicks on June 9, 1956. They had two children, John Darwin (Tobie) and Jenna Lynn, both of whom survive. Mr. hall moved his you d family to to Indiana where they settled in Zionsville and he opened an art studio. He later took a position with Eli Lilly working in the art department as a graphic illustrator. He created numerous presentations for physicians, medical illustrations and cartoons for the Lilly newspaper until his retirement. Cartooning was his true passion and he did local commercials, created Rosie Roselyn gif the famous bakery chain as well as illustrations for local organizations , and children’s magazines such as Highlights. Mr. Hall was a dedicated and active member of Salem Lutheran Church in New Augusta where he served on the church council and many committees. Burton was a talented woodworker and created many projects gif family and friends from felled trees in his large yard. He also spent long hours using his carpentry skills to remodel their historic home over many years. He also spent member of the Zionsville Lions Club and was a charter member of the Save the Bricks Committee. He supported the efforts to keep the history of the colonial village reputation of Zionsville. Mr. Hall actively supports his children through school sports and 4H events and was a dedicated and proud member of the Zionsville Eagle Band Parents. Burton’s pride and joy were his children and grandchildren. They were blessed by his quiet guidance, his quick wit and dry sense of humor, his deep faith and they inherited his artistic abilities. Survivors include his children, his grandchildren Georgia, Maeta, Jonathon and Levi. Deborah LeDrew and his niece and nephews and extended family. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Donations may be made to Salem Lutheran Church in New Augusta, Indiana.
