Betty Joyce Brown

Betty Joyce (Duke) Brown, age 87, passed away, September 22, 2024, for her eternal rest. She was born May 15, 1937 in Livingston, TN to Robert Sidney and Cora M. (Pryor) Duke. On May 7, 1955, she married Rev. John H. Brown who preceded her death on February 15, 2020. The Brown family lived in many places including Old Hickory TN, Lebanon, TN, Hanover, IN, Ellettsville, IN and Muskegon, MI, where John served as a pastor at the First Baptist Church and Betty was a homemaker. Betty’s giving spirit will be fondly remembered for sharing in fellowship and for those in need of her home cooking and baked goods. She loved and cared for her family fiercely and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Sonja (Nels Gunderson) Brown of Madison, IN, Julia (Mark) Conlin of Bloomington, IN, John H. Brown, Jr. and Jennifer (Jeff) Costin of Indianapolis, IN; 7 grandchildren, Sara (Jeff Kofmehl) Renneisen, Jaclyn (Page) Cotton, Elizabeth (Courtney) Curson, Wade (Hanying) Costin, Chase Costin, Parker Brown and Logan Brown; 2 great grandchildren, Connor and Sydney Cotton. As the 7th of 12 children, she is survived by 2 brothers, James Duke of Macon, GA, Charles (Mary) Duke of Monroe, TN and 2 brothers-in-law, Otis “Pat” Patterson of Nashville, TN and, Jim (Judy) Brown of Algood, TN, along with many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held for Betty at her resting place in Tennessee.
